THE OBLIQUE ORBIT OF THE SUPER-NEPTUNE HAT-P-11b
We find the orbit of the Neptune-sized exoplanet HAT-P-11b to be highly inclined relative to the equatorial plane of its host star. This conclusion is based on spectroscopic observations of two transits, which allowed the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect to be detected with an amplitude of 1.5 m s−1. The sky-projected obliquity is 103+26 −10 degrees. This is the smallest exoplanet for which spin-orbi...
متن کاملHAT - P - 11 b : A SUPER - NEPTUNE PLANET TRANSITING A BRIGHT K STAR IN THE KEPLER FIELD
We report on the discovery of HAT-P-11b, the smallest radius transiting extrasolar planet (TEP), and the first hot Neptune discovered to date by transit searches. HAT-P-11b orbits the bright (V=9.587) and metal rich ([Fe/H] = +0.31 ± 0.05) K4 dwarf star GSC 03561-02092 with P = 4.8878162 ± 0.0000071 days and produces a transit signal with depth of 4.2mmag; the shallowest found by transit search...
متن کاملHAT-P-2b: A SUPER-MASSIVE PLANET IN AN ECCENTRIC ORBIT TRANSITING A BRIGHT STAR
We report the discovery of HAT-P-2b, a massive (Mp = 8.17 ± 0.72 MJup) planet transiting the bright (V = 8.7) F8 star HD 147506, with an orbital period of 5.63 days and an eccentricity of e = 0.5. From the transit light curve we determine that the radius of the planet is Rp = 1.18 ± 0.16 RJup. HAT-P-2b has a mass about 9 times the average mass of previously-known transiting exoplanets, and a de...
متن کاملFollow - up Observations of the Neptune Mass Transiting Extrasolar Planet Hat - P - 11 b
We have confirmed the existence of the transiting super Neptune extrasolar planet HAT-P-11b. On May 1, 2009 UT the transit of Hat-P-11b was detected at the University of Arizona’s 1.55m Kuiper Telescope with 1.7 millimag rms accuracy. We find a central transit time of Tc = 2454952.92534± 0.00060 BJD; this transit occurred 80 ± 73 seconds sooner than previous measurements (71 orbits in the past)...
